Dance Charger

Along with the Gotwind REcharge pod (http://gotwind.org/orange_recharge_pod.htm) we designed and manufactured for Orange, we also created the kinetic energy ‘dance charger’.

We designed a generator capable of converting mechanical to electrical energy and after several weeks of head scratching we achieved a generating efficiency of 85% and a generator small enough in size to be mounted on an armband.

The electrical energy generated is rectified from a bipolar current impulse (AC) to direct current (DC) to charge a rechargeable battery. A high efficiency booster circuit is then used to achieve the constant current power supply to charge a mobile phone, or any other portable electronic device for that matter.

After testing the power output from an hours (crazy!) dancing was sufficient to recharge a Nokia N95 to two bars of charge, equivalent to approximately 15 minutes of talk time.

The armband was manufactured from Neoprene with Velcro fixing straps.

The core design principles of our generator could also be adopted for generating charge whilst performing other activities such as jogging, or even walking and be leg or waist mounted. We are currently researching into other varioations of the product and gaining higher charge efficiencies.

We are very pleased with what we have achieved at the prototype stage and are now looking into moving this concept into production.

Please contact us (http://gotwind.org/contact.htm) if you wish to find out more about the dance charger, or discuss any possibilities for your company.

Gotwind

Wind Charger

Suitable for recharging any portable electronic device outdoors.
This unique green product recharges: Cell phones - digital camera's - Ipods - mobile internet consoles - hand held GPS units etc.

"I've fallen in love with the idea and would do almost anything to get my hands on one" Frank V. Roesler III (Oklahoma City)

Initially the U.K's communications company Orange commissioned gotwind to design and build a working mobile phone wind charger prototype. The timescale was just 4 weeks, which coincided with the world famous U.K Glastonbury music festival of which Orange is a key sponsor. We feel gotwind has achieved this and more.....

Our wind generator prototype is of the standard horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) type, with a blade propeller diameter of 30cm. Weighing a mere 150 grams.

The wind generator produces enough power to trickle charge an independent rechargeable battery. A 12 hour charge (in a 12 m.p.h wind) of stored power is then ready for a mobile phone to be plugged into the control box and fully charged within 1-2 hours (dependent on phone manufacturer).

Recharge Pod

The recharge Pod has it’s own site please visit www.rechargepod.com (http://www.rechargepod.com/) for more info!

I am very pleased to finally reveal what we at Gotwind have been working on for the past few months.

Continuing on from the massive success we achieved last year for telecommunications company Orange with the tent mounted wind charger (http://gotwind.org/gotwind-orange-wind-charger.htm) at the Glastonbury festival.

We were commissioned once again this year to provide a much larger solution to the problems of charging mobile phones at the Glastonbury festival.

The Gotwind REchargepod is the first mobile phone charging station powered solely by Wind and Solar Renewable Energy.

The self sufficient pod provides a quick and secure place to charge multiple mobile phones whilst outdoors and away from traditional power sources.

With a peak power of 1Kw, the pod can recharge up to100 mobile phones per hour, and stores any unused energy in its battery bank. A fully functional weather station and power generated and consumed readout is also viewable for all to see on an information panel within the pod.

We are very pleased with what we have achieved and are now looking into alternative possibilities for our unique product.

Eco-Nightclub Launches: Dancers Generate Electricity (http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/green-living/eco-nightclub-launches-dancers-generate-electricity/1307)

With a bouncing floor and a series of power generating blocks, the first eco-nightclub in Britain will open its gates on July 10, in London. The bar is supposedly powered by renewable energy and will serve organic spirits in polycarbon cups. It also has plans to install a power-generating dance floor and a recycling water system to flush the lavatories.

Eco-clubbers that want to have a good time will be allowed in for £10 and those that can prove they either walked, pedaled a bicycle or used public transport get in for free. Awesome! I suppose I’ll have my bicycle seat with me or maybe the safety chain, in case they need evidence (or if they want a piece of me!)
Based at Bar Surya in Pentonville Road, the club is owned by property millionaire and head of new climate change organization Club4Climate, Andrew Charalambous. The Greek-Cypriot businessman is trying to reach out to young people in an effort to save the world:
“There is no greater platform than clubbing to reach out to young people. Having an energy-generating dancefloor is a very exciting and interesting-idea that we have been talking to people in Rotterdam about. Such a dancefloor could generate about 60 per cent of the building’s energy.”
I really like the idea, but there is one thing that some may not agree with. Apparently everyone needs to sign a pledge promising to work towards curbing climate change. Is it just me or does that sound annoying? Should I be not allowed to have fun, if I don’t sign a piece of paper?
We’ll still give it a try when the new eco-bar opens and probably tell you everything about it!
